The Lowdown

My name is Rupesh and I’m a bit of a Comic, Trading card and DVD junkie. I started collecting comics when I was about 13 years old. I used to work in a newsagents after school and noticed a couple of first issues on the shelf, and thought to myself that these would be cool to buy. I still remember them to this day, they were published by now defunct Teknocomix, and the titles were Nail Gaiman’s Mr Hero, and Leonard Nimoy’s Primortals. From there i was hooked.

I also picked up my first trading cards around a year and a half before that. They were Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (Animated Series) produced by Topps, which I still have over 15 years later. I completed this set with my friends, when we used to trade in the school playground - now that was fun. After that, I hadn’t touched cards again until watching (my first exposure to X-men) X-Men animated series on TV in the school holidays. Low and behold a few months after, the same newsagents i was working in started selling Fleer Ultra X-Men ’95 cards. Well I just had to have them, and this became one of what i consider to be my mainstream trading sets which I completed via almost completely buying packs. Oodles of joy when i finally picked up my last Sinister Observations card.

Where am i today... well I’m still collecting trading cards and comics and oh yes, DVD’s also. Having amassed over 2500 comics and more base sets of trading cards then I can shake a stick at, I’m happily collecting what I like now, instead every single thing i can get my hands on. Sketch cards have become increasingly popular with me, and I thoroughly enjoy asking artists for commissions of my favourite scenes and characters from all aspects of my entertaining pastimes.

I also love all my different SCI-FI TV shows. Being a huge Trekkie means i love ALL the Star Trek syndication's from The Original Series all the way through to Enterprise. But I love watching Stargate, Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Smallville and I really enjoyed the now cancelled Firefly. I watch way too much TV...
